I'm a DIY type for eyes. A nice size eye can be made from foam cylinders 5/16". I use a dremmel for exterior shaping and a concave tool as well. Another great way to make several sizes of eyes is via a drill. Pull apart a cheap metal telescoping stick and use each section to drill foam blocks. I have used dollar store foam dice. A lot of green, orange, yellow. I'm still looking for white foam blocks. I can share examples at next meeting.
I wanted to try these flies so I bought a ten piece set of leather hole punches from Amazon. The set was about $12, I think. They are pretty stout. There must be a number of different foam sources like old flip flops, packing materials, and gardening knee pads. I think many should be available at the dollar stores. I plan on trying them out sometime this week. I've seen some videos that suggest the a careful trimming of the squared off edges will work nicely. I doubt the fish will care.
I have been using "Veniard". Available in different sizes and colors. Working fine.
