I guess the flyfishing equivalent of a hole-in-one is first cast, fish on. That's how today started when Doug Post and I visited the primitive wilderness setting of Trophy Lake Golf and Casting. My go-to pattern was the micro zonker which seemed irresistible to these chunky rainbows. Although the wind and trees behind us made for some frustrating entanglements, both of us managed to catch some very nice fish. Doug had action on a bead head prince nymph but struggled a bit since he only had a floating line. The fish like to be a little deeper in their efforts to stay away from the local eagles who find them quite tasty.
Lots of golfers stopped and watched or asked questions. Luckily we were able to entertain them with plenty of rod action. Bloody Mary's in the clubhouse brought a spicy end to the morning fishing.
