Tying Hackle Feathers on a Dry Fly
Have you ever tied a dry fly and the hackle feathers get trapped when you whip finish your fly. I have many times. This picture is an Adams dry fly size 18. When I started tying everything I read, or watch videos, and instructors taught me was to tie the hackle behind the wing and wrap forward. That's when I get into trouble and I cover the eye of the hook. Tie the your hackle Infront of the wing. This fly you tie in two hackles Infront of the wing. Move your thread behind the wing. Wrap back towards the bend of the hook and secure you hackle with several tight wraps. Weave your thread forward towards the eye of the hook and whip finish or use a half hitch. Use a small drop CA glue and your done. It only took me 20 years to find a better way.

I hope this hack will help.
