6/21/2023 Zoom Fly Tie - Adult Damsel (dry fly)
Previously we did a damsel nymph and now it's time for the adult. There are numerous patterns here and my go to adult has been replaced by the following pattern. Both Davie McPhail and Barry Ord Clark have a similiar pattern with Davie using a foam tail. I lean towards this pattern from Barry. The design allows for a great surface film presenation.
This pattern is not as basic as a dubbed leech but manageable with just a few steps. More than worth it since a productive dry fly.
Please reply if interested to attend and I'll share the Zoom meeting details.
Recipe:
Hook - size 12 mustad dry fly hook is commonly used but I prefer a 1x strong and 1x short nymph hook
Tail - braided blue damsel material
Wing - dun hackle, off white
Foam - blue, 2 mm
Hackle - grizzly or blue
Dubbing - purple/blue ice dub

Nice pattern! I would like to learn to tie it. I'm fishing this Wed (6/14) at one of several lakes (haven't decided) and will be on the lookout for active adults.
