Tokul Creek Steelhead
The state recently opened Tokul creek (goes into the Snoqualmie) early for steelhead heading to the hatchery as they don’t need the broodstock since they’re discontinuing raising steelhead there. I gave it a try on Tuesday. The creek is only 20’ wide, brushy on both sides and is mostly shallow with boulders and logs creating very small pocket water within fast currents. I tried nymphing while wading up the creek - which wasn’t easy. After my last snag that broke off above my indicator, I called it quits. I did chase two silvers out of an undercut bank and hooked a few small trout managing to keep one on. Overall, it’s not worth fly-fishing unless you want to bring a three weight and try for trout. I am interested in swinging the Snoqualmie at some point.
Tenkara would work.
