The Yak is a tough mistress
Over the last seven days, I've driven to the Yak 3x and floated my boat in different canyon sections. The results are four reels smashed (not mine)by my truck in one fell swoop, one broken Spey rod (mine), one flat tire (mine), two fish caught by me on the Spey (before it broke) and one fish caught by Rob Jensen, and no fish for Doug Post yesterday. The first two floats were clear weather and 1000 cfs. Yesterdays was clear weather but 2000 cfs and dirty water with 2-3' visibility. On none of those days did I hear of anyone having really great days fishing. Of course it's not always about the fishing as Paul Fournier reminded me yesterday. And the views, time outside and spending it with friends is always great, but sometimes it is about the fishing. No dry fly action in those three days, and indicator nymphing wasn't any better. The Spey usually got me three to four bites a day when it wasn't broken including one fish that broke me off on the set. Water is still cold.
